A love letter to… Summer

Dear summer,

I remember the first time I realized just how important and dear you are to me. It was just after my first ever summer holiday while attend school. I was sitting in one of those supposed to be serious classes for 2nd graders when my gaze fell on the window on the left side of my desk. The sun was shining but the whole atmosphere was dull and melancholic. I didn’t know back when what it was but I knew that something was missing. Just when another school year ended, I finally understood that it was you.

Since that very day, I couldn’t get you out of my head. You were everywhere, in my deepest dreams, desires, in my craziest fantasies. I wanted to be with you forever. I never understood why we had to part away every time. It felt so unfair to me. Just as I was starting to think that it was the best time of my life, you would disappear. You would leave me hurt and longing for our next meeting.

We had quite an affair, didn’t we? Those two months that felt like only a few seconds were the best moments of my life. You taught me what it’s like to be loved, to love, to dream, to be reckless, to enjoy life, to be free and completely at peace. You still do. You still are teaching me lessons that I will never forget. I guess the time has come for one of the biggest lessons of life and that is the art of appreciating what you’ve got.

I always dreaded the moment you would leave me, and I always counted days till the moment I’ll see you again. But what I failed to do is enjoy my life. My life didn’t feel complete without you and I thought that being happy for me was being with you. But now I know better and I want to thank you for that. You taught me that sometimes we have to let go of those who we love and sometimes life isn’t fair to us but that shouldn’t stop us from feeling happiness.

Now I know that it’s enough to simply cherish what we’ve got and be thankful for the moments in which we feel whole. So, thank you for being in my life, for making me fall in love with you, for bringing me joy and fun even if for a few months. I love you, my dear summer, I love you with all I’ve got and I can’t wait for the next time I’ll see you. I hope that you’ll be as incredible and as daring as you were the last time I spent the day with you.

Your sincerely,

Leta
